HE CAME HOME .... 1

The money would be deposited directly into the business account of Diego and Julián's restaurant.

Teresa had never known.

Diego snatched the document out of Arturo's hands.

"You weren't supposed to see that!"

At that very moment, the sound of sirens echoed down the street.

But the worst part wasn't the police.

The worst part was Teresa, still lying on the floor, looking up at her son and asking:

"Diego... since when were you planning to steal from me?"

Part 2

Diego didn't answer.

He simply clutched the papers against his chest, as if he could still hide what had already been exposed.

Mariana jumped to her feet.

"I didn't know the money was going into the restaurant's account."

Diego spun toward her, furious.

"Shut up."

That single word silenced the entire kitchen.

For the first time, Arturo noticed something he had missed before.

Mariana wasn't calm.

She was pale.

Her eyes were red.

And when Diego spoke to her, she lowered her gaze like someone who had learned to obey.

A few minutes later, the police officers entered the house.

Behind them came the paramedics.

Teresa was treated in the living room while one of the officers asked what had happened.

Diego spoke first—fast, far too fast.

"My mom tripped. We were only here to help her with some paperwork. My dad is upset because he didn't know about the meeting."

Arturo held up his phone.

"The emergency call is recorded. I also took photographs before anyone touched anything."

The color drained from Diego's face.

Julián tried to step in.

"Officer, this is all a misunderstanding. Mrs. Teresa had already agreed to sell. All that was left was her signature."

Teresa, with gauze pressed against her eyebrow, raised her voice.

"I never agreed."

The officer instructed everyone to separate.

As the paramedics prepared to take Teresa to the ambulance, she reached for Arturo's hand once more.

"In my knitting bag," she whispered. "There's a USB flash drive."

Arturo walked to the sofa.

Inside a cloth bag, among balls of yarn and knitting needles, he found a small black USB drive.

Diego spotted it from the kitchen.

"Dad... give me that."

Arturo slipped it into his pocket.

"Now you're finally afraid."
